  • Did you know that your home’s electrical panel can have a life of 25 years or less just like your furnace and appliances? Circuit breakers can crack, melt and burn over time, and the buss bars* in a panel can become pitted, all of which can put your family's life in danger. Your home is your most valuable asset and the electrical system is a vital part. Shouldn’t you take a few simple steps to protect it by having your electrical system checked? See below.

  • Did you know that Convection heaters are highly efficient and can save you up to 40% on electrical usage compared to conventional baseboard heaters? See Useful Links.

  • Did you know that the Ontario Electrical Safety Code requires only minimum standards? Often, it is not the most practical method:
EXAMPLE 1) basic installations include kitchen counter 20 amp receptacles which will limit you to plug in only one device instead of a common split plug which can accommodate 2 devices such as a coffee maker, toaster, microwave, etc. What a deception!
EXAMPLE 2) all bathroom plugs are often connected together on the same circuit which limits you to only one device (i.e. hairdryer of 1,500 watts) instead of a dedicated feed to each separate bathroom plug. How frustrating!

    * buss bar is a metal part of the panel which distributes the power to all the breakers.

It may be time to upgrade your panel:

  1. When an electrical panel starts failing, it often includes intermittent flickering or total failure and could cause FIRE! When the panel's condition reaches one of these stages, its integrity has been compromised and it becomes an expensive emergency panel replacement which has to be remedied immediately involving inspectors, the power company, after-hour labour and unnecessary stress!

  2. Over time, houses often are owned by multiple homeowners, who could have done electrical changes themselves or hired non-qualified contractors, and may not have had their electrical work inspected, therefore your electrical installation might not meet Electrical Safety Code standards and could cause you major difficulties. When selling your home, having an ESA certificate from a qualified electrical contractor for code compliant work simplifies the sale transaction giving everyone piece of mind.

  3. Some insurance companies require homeowners to upgrade their existing older electrical service to newer technology due to their unsafe conditions or because they may have lost their CSA certifications. Homeowners could be refused coverage if the minimum requirements aren't met.
